Uplifted and inspired to be better.
Can’t help but feel energized whenever this song is sang in church. Happily, it happened again today. In the past several days I’ve been feeling a bit on the edge, as if being tested.
This prayer/ hymn always reminds me to pause and ask during times of uncertainty, frustration or despair: What am I supposed to learn from this? Can this experience be a way for me, or others around me, to get better? Am I allowing God to work on me or through me?
Below are the lyrics in full. You may want to sing along with this video.
The Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi
Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there is hatred let me bring your love.
Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord.
And where there’s doubt, true faith in you.
Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope.
Where there is darkness, only light.
And where there’s sadness, ever joy.
Oh, Master grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love with all my soul.
Make me a channel of your peace.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned.
In giving to all men that we receive.
And in dying that we’re born to eternal life.
